Radiotherapy is one of the main treatment modalities for cancer. There are almost 9000 radiotherapy centers in the world (IAEA). The number is steadily increasing due to higher cancer rates, higher use of radiotherapy, and impact of developing countries. Many of those centers can deliver advanced treatments. We have detected a need in the field of radiotherapy QA: with the introduction of new advanced techniques none of the existing technologies offers the required high-resolution high-precision quality assurance.
We have developed a solution based on LICs. Our device has the largest number of measuring channels (2048) of any existing device and covers an area of 11 cm x 11 cm with millimetric resolution and no dead areas (no blind spots as opposed to any existing technology). It allows for the most accurate QA of radiotherapy treatments, especially those relying on small radiation fields like radiosurgery, and will allow clinical institutions to safely implement and deliver promising techniques.
DART was created in mid 2014 by a group of researchers from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and the Regional Health Service (SERGAS) with more than 12 years of experience on the LIC technology, including the construction and clinical evaluation of several prototypes.

The technology transferred to DART is protected by two patents owned by the University of Santiago:
• WO2005074351 (A2): Liquid detector array for measuring ionising radiation dose/fluence.
• ES 2400269 (B9): Method and apparatus for measuring the linear energy transfer and the energy of beams of hadrons or ions.
